Access to Water Meters
The Lakehurst field staff has been having trouble locating water meter pits due to homeowners landscaping over them, including, in some cases, concrete. It is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain access to the cast iron lid that covers the meter pit. The inability to read a meter could result in an inaccurate bill and a disturbance to your landscaping. Apply water to the most critical part of the root zone within the dripline. Apply water at mid-day so that it will have time to soak in before possible freezing at night.
Planning Concrete or Landscaping Work
ALWAYS CALL BEFORE YOU DIG – Utility Notification Center of Colorado. Call (811) for all Utility locates.
Is new landscaping on your calendar this year? Be sure to call 8-1-1 to have your underground utilities located before you start. Knowing where the underground facilities are located can help keep you safe and prevent costly, unintended repairs.
Your water meter is typically located outside of your home or business and within 3-5 feet of the property line. If you are doing landscaping or concrete work, be sure to locate the meter pit lid and protect it while the work is going on.
If your meter pit lid is in the driveway, please call the District office for an inspection before you pour new concrete. District staff will help ensure the meter pit lid is at the correct height to allow access and prevent damage to your new flatwork.
Automatic Payments
If you have registered for automatic payments to be drawn on your bank account or charged to your debit or credit card and the ACH draft/charge is returned for any reason, an email is automatically generated and sent to the email address on file for your Lakehurst account. Emails may go to your spam/junk mail folder.
Be sure to check your bank or credit card statement each month to verify that your Lakehurst Water and Sewer bill is being paid. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your automatic payments, please contact our office.
District Welcomes New Maintenance Employee
The District would like to welcome Seamus George as its newest full-time maintenance employee. Seamus was hired in July 2025. Seamus grew up in Morrison, but moved to Laramie, Wyoming where he graduated from Laramie High School before moving back to Colorado in 2023.
When Seamus is not at work he enjoys learning about history, spending time with family, and hiking. He absolutely loves being back in Colorado.
Lakehurst Flushing Program Ensures Water Quality
If you live on a cul-de-sac or near a fire hydrant, you have probably noticed a Lakehurst employee flushing water onto the street. While it may appear, to the untrained eye, water is being wasted at an alarming rate, what is really happening is an assurance that the water we
deliver to your house is clean, clear, and of the highest quality.
Even with pending drought conditions, water can become stagnant at dead ends of the system and needs to be flushed. This is accomplished by accessing valve boxes located at the end of the water main and flushing water until a certain chlorine residual value is met and water appears to be clear.
Lakehurst field employees try to minimize the amount of water that needs to be flushed and still maintain the required parameters set by the Colorado Department of Health (CDPHE) and Denver Water. Lakehurst understands the need to conserve water, especially when the reservoirs are at an all-time low, but remain diligent with keeping the system to the highest water quality standards.
Fire hydrants are flushed, at a minimum to verify they are in good working condition, oiled and greased and ready to use by the fire department if the need arises. Lakehurst has an on-going, robust hydrant maintenance program for all our hydrants in the District. If a hydrant is
not operating properly or cannot be repaired due to the age or available repair parts, it is put on a list for future replacement. Lakehurst replaces approximately ten hydrants per year.
